BTEC Biology (Applied Health Science) Course at Varndean College

 

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

If you enjoyed Biology at school and want to increase your specialist knowledge and understanding in a practical context that closely tracks the science that professionals use in the workplace, then this is the course for you. Applied Health Science is a two year course equivalent to one A level, but the approach is very different. There is a much greater emphasis on practical work and work-related simulations and you will produce structured assignments rather than having to memorise a large body of knowledge.

COURSE ESSENTIALS

COURSES AVAILABLE:


Single BTEC Level 3 (equivalent to 1 A Level)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:


Standard advanced course requirements plus
Grade 4 or above in GCSE Biology and another science GCSE
OR
Grade 4/4 in GCSE Combined Science
PLUS
Grade 4 in GCSE Maths

HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED:


Coursework and examination

CAREER PATHWAYS

If you are considering a career in the NHS, Nursing, Para-medicine, Biomedical science or Laboratory work. This is the course for you. Students can also progress to other degrees such as Biology.

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

Data analysis (including use of IT); Problem solving; producing balanced ethical arguments; scientific literacy; teamwork.

OTHER INFORMATION:


Applied Health Science goes well with Sport, Health & Social Care and Psychology.
