Course Information

Who Is This For?
Anyone with an interest in print making. From absolute beginners to those with more experience, there will be something for all skill levels. This course is for anyone who has ever wanted to turn their sketches into fine art pieces or textile designs for cushions, lampshades, or wall hangings.
What Will I Learn?
How to use a lino tool to carve into lino to create prints. How to turn sketches into professional art prints. How to make the most of one lino plate to create endless variations on prints.
Content of the Course
Week 1 - introduction to lino printing using Powerpoint and inspirational artists. Students will gather ideas and brainstorm and start sketching ideas. Week 2 - finalising sketches. Tutor will do demonstrations on safe lino tool handling and will demo how to do a variety of marks using different tools. Students will do small sample lino cuts. Week 3 - 7 - cutting, carving and printing linoprints. Experimentation with different papers, fabrics, collage techniques. Experimenting with colours. Students can aim to create 2 a5 lino blocks in this section of the course. Week 8 - 10 - students can push themselves to make a larger (a4) print or to create a reduction print (a5) which involves carving a lino block, creating many prints then continuing to carve into the original block to add more layers to prints.
Assessment Details
We will do peer assessments and group critiques where in groups students will offer opinions and ideas to each other. Students will also have regular 1-to-1 tutorials from the tutor where advice will be given.

The work developed in the course can be used in portfolios for students who wish to apply to other art courses

Financial Information

If your course costs more than £200 you may apply to pay in three instalments.

You must complete and sign an instalment form. The first payment will be taken on application, followed by a further payment at the start of the course and a final payment 2 months later. Please note that a handling charge of 10% of the course fee (up to a maximum of £30) is added to all instalment payments. You will still be liable for the full cost of the course if you leave the course prior to all instalments being paid. Please contact the Registry Department on 01273 546604 for further information.

No refunds are given once a course has started. If a course is cancelled by the college you will receive a full refund of all fees paid. If you decide to cancel your enrolment before the class starts your payment will be refunded less a 20% administration charge (up to a maximum of £50). If you decide to cancel your enrolment for a Saturday workshop less than 72 hours before the class your payment will be refunded less an 80% administration charge.
