Course Information

Who Is This For?
Please note you may get a government loan to help with the payment for the course. This qualification will suit you if you have been working or volunteering as a teaching assistant in a primary or secondary school and are either unqualified or wish to move to a more senior role. Ideally you will be employed or volunteering in a school already. However previous experience and qualifications will be taken into consideration at interview and you may be able to move directly to this qualification if you have studied before at Level 3. You will also need to have a mentor within your workplace.
What Will I Learn?
You will learn how to support the class teacher of children of any age in Primary, Secondary or Special schools. The Level 3 Certificate also covers the support of pupils with particular learning needs.

The course includes Children and young people's development; Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people Communication; Professional relationships; Equality, diversity and inclusion; Schools as organisations.
Assessment Details
The course is internally assessed by a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.
Teaching Methods
This course will provide you with an understanding of the knowledge you need when working directly with children or young people in school environments.

When you have successfully completed this course you can apply for teaching assistant jobs at an appropriate level.

Financial Information

Students over 19 years old who wish to study a level 3 or level 4 course (Access, CACHE, Counselling etc.) may apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from the UK Government. The minimum loan amount is £300 and loans do not have to be repaid until your income exceeds £21,000 per year. For further information visit www.gov.uk/advancedlearningloans. If you decide to fund all or part of your course in this way please advise us of this on enrolment on your application form.

If your course costs more than £200 you may apply to pay in three instalments.

You must complete and sign an instalment form. The first payment will be taken on application, followed by a further payment at the start of the course and a final payment 2 months later. Please note that a handling charge of 10% of the course fee (up to a maximum of £30) is added to all instalment payments. You will still be liable for the full cost of the course if you leave the course prior to all instalments being paid. Please contact the Registry Department on 01273 546604 for further information.

No refunds are given once a course has started. If a course is cancelled by the college you will receive a full refund of all fees paid. If you decide to cancel your enrolment before the class starts your payment will be refunded less a 20% administration charge (up to a maximum of £50). If you decide to cancel your enrolment for a Saturday workshop less than 72 hours before the class your payment will be refunded less an 80% administration charge.
