Who Is This For?
This course will suit you if you have a particular interest in Italian. Students who would benefit most from studying this qualification are likely to have completed an Italian Beginners course or have a good beginners knowledge of Italian and basic Italian communication skills. By the end of the year will have reached a level of linguistic competency to enable you to achieve a good GCSE pass.

Content of the Course
This qualification offers a suitable progression from a beginner course focusing on the development of all four language skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing. It has a straightforward structure with 3 engaging themes: 1. Identity and culture - Me, my family and friends - Technology in everyday life - Free-time activities - Customs and festivals in Italian-speaking countries/communities 1 Identity and culture 2. Local, national, international and global areas of interest - Home, town, neighbourhood and region - Social issues - Global issues - Travel and tourism 3. Current and future study and employment - My studies - Life at school/college - Education post-16 - Jobs, career choices and ambitions The three themes are studied alongside the grammar requirements for GCSE and assessed through 3 externally-examined papers (Listening, Reading and Writing) and one teacher examiner conducted speaking assessment (Paper 2) marked by an AQA examiner. Which syllabus do we follow? We undertake the AQA exam board assessments.

Financial Information

If you are studying an accredited course at Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 you may be eligible for a concessionary rate.

  • If you are unemployed and claiming Job Seekers Allowance/Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit.
  • Unemployed and in receipt of a means tested benefit and wish to upskill to enter employment. (You will need to complete a self-declaration form).
  • Employed but seeking employment.
  • If you are employed but earn less than £15736.50.
  • It is your first level 2 or Level 3 qualification and you are aged 19-23.

You must enrol in person at the college and bring evidence of benefit; proof of age (passport/driving licence) or pay slips with you. This must be dated within three months of the course start date. Please contact the Registry on 01273 546604 for further information.

If you are in receipt of a means tested benefit or on a low income you may apply to the Learning Support Fund for help with travel, childcare costs and some tuition fees.

You will be required to complete a learner support application form and provide evidence of benefit or income support your application. Please contact the Adult Education Office on 01273 546602 for further information.

If your course costs more than £200 you may apply to pay in three instalments.

You must complete and sign an instalment form. The first payment will be taken on application, followed by a further payment at the start of the course and a final payment 2 months later. Please note that a handling charge of 10% of the course fee (up to a maximum of £30) is added to all instalment payments. You will still be liable for the full cost of the course if you leave the course prior to all instalments being paid. Please contact the Registry Department on 01273 546604 for further information.

No refunds are given once a course has started. If a course is cancelled by the college you will receive a full refund of all fees paid. If you decide to cancel your enrolment before the class starts your payment will be refunded less a 20% administration charge (up to a maximum of £50). If you decide to cancel your enrolment for a Saturday workshop less than 72 hours before the class your payment will be refunded less an 80% administration charge.
