Public Services

These courses are particularly suitable if you are studying in preparation for employment in the Public Sector, particularly in job roles where you will be expected to use physical fitness skills, research skills or carry out customer-facing operational roles. They offer skills for working in the public sector but also transferable skills for any type of employment. They are suitable if you are considering a police or military career but also if you are interested in developing, maintaining and protecting our society. You will learn by providing evidence gathered from realistic workplace scenarios and activities. You will gain experience through a wide range of tasks, visiting speakers and visits. You can combine a range of units to build up different sized qualifications.

There are lots of trips including optional longer stays in places such as New York. There are some compulsory trips and students will need to make a payment of about £60 at the start of the course.

The course investigates a range of Public Services.

Some of the units we may study are:

  • Government Policies and the Public Services
  • Leadership and Team Working
  • Citizenship and Diversity
  • Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle
  • Dealing with Major Incidents
  • Emergency Services
  • Crime and the Community
  • War and Terrorism
I chose this subject because it seemed interesting and relevant to my future career aspirations. I have particularly enjoyed the team bonding and learning leadership skills. This has brought the class together making it feel like a family, whilst at the same time learning.
