Three Varndean College international students have just won prizes in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. Yanlei Chen achieved a score of 102 (which was the highest score of all Year 1 participants from Varndean), winning her a Gold medal and also a place in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 (BMO1) ; Jingya Wang, who achieved Silver; and Jiawei Bai who achieved a Bronze medal.
The three students, who are all from China and currently studying A Levels in the UK, are part of the ‘A Star Programme’ at Varndean College. This is a high-end programme for Chinese students which provides a series of services such as extra-curricular guidance, study tours, group lessons, one-to-one tuition and career planning. It is designed to empower students to raise their potential, helping them to achieve access to the world's top universities.
