Open Events

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our Open Events, which this year take place on:

Saturday 29 September                                                  11am – 2pm

Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 November                 6.30pm - 9.00pm

There will be the opportunity to explore the campus, visit classrooms, talk to tutors and students, meet the Principal and Vice Principal over tea and coffee, take a look at all our courses on offer and watch the college video presentation. There are good transport links, with the 5B bus stopping right at the gates, or Preston Park Station a 15 min walk away. If you are coming by car, unfortunately there is no parking on-site, but there is free street parking close by.

Please remember not to park on grass verges as there is a particular prohibition on this around the College and traffic wardens do patrol the area.

For those students interested in finding out more about our International Baccalaureate Diploma, we will also be holding an additional International Baccalaureate Talk on

Thursday 18 October                                                       6.30pm

Our A Level pass rate this year was of 97.8%, with 48.7%% achieving A* - B and 75.5% achieving A* - C grades. Our International Baccalaureate results were the second best ever this year, with an average point score of 36.12, the equivalent to 3 A grades at A Level. Eleven of our IB students (26%) gained 40 points or above and 75% of those applying to UCAS have acquired places at Russell Group universities, including three at Oxford and Cambridge.

Our college campus is unique in terms of its open, green surroundings, providing a stimulating learning environment in facilities which have recently been significantly upgraded. Funding and plans are also in place to build a new Science and Mathematics Centre for November 2019.

Students have a rich, broad and enjoyable experience throughout their time with us and always tell us how happy they are at Varndean. They consistently achieve excellent results, thriving in an ethos that is supportive and respectful but at the same time challenging. We provide a friendly and welcoming environment where you can work and receive support with your studies. Equally important in helping students decide to come to Varndean was the feeling that the teaching staff was really enthusiastic about their subjects and there was a great relationship between staff and students. There is also a huge range of Enrichment Activities available.

Do come and visit us at one of our Open Events. We look forward to meeting you.

I was very impressed by the number and variety of courses available at the College, as well as the facilities and the grounds. The vibe here is very welcoming and inspiring, with both the teachers and the students being friendly and helpful.

MARTINA TOTH (PREVIOUSLY HOME-EDUCATED)

Since the first time I came to an Open Evening, I loved the ambience of the College. It is very friendly and warm. It offered the IB, which I wanted to do.

INES MATHIEU (EX-MILLAIS SCHOOL, HORSHAM)

As everyone says (and rightly so) the atmosphere at Varndean College simply felt the most welcoming to me, with its open green spaces and strong sense of Art.

KITTY FABRY (EX-LONGHILL HIGH SCHOOL)

I loved the campus and the atmosphere, the teachers are all so friendly and the College itself makes you feel at home. I have had a fabulous two years.
