Environmental Science

The word environment is used prolifically and features in many of the key debates within our society. This course will suit you if you want to understand what lies behind the terms used in the media so that you are able to make a knowledgeable contribution to debates or pursue a career in environmental/earth sciences. Students who enjoy a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and have a keen interest in the sustainability of our planet will find this course engaging and thought provoking.

You will gain an understanding of the physical and biological environment, as well as exploring topics such as pollution, climate change and energy. You will also learn field research techniques and using environmental data to make decisions or reinforce arguments.

This course mixes well with Geography or Biology and may also appeal to you if you are taking Politics, Business or Social Science, or want to develop your understanding of environmental issues.

Career Pathways

There are a range of careers in the environmental field such as conservation, ecology, weather forecasting, planning or building professions, farming, forestry and horticulture, water management and eco-tourism.

Teamwork; field and desk-based research; quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques; understanding a range of environmental issues and their political context.

Other Information

The course counts as a science, but the material is accessible to students from the humanities or social sciences. Students undertake compulsory local fieldwork and evening lectures, as well as optional residential trips. The teaching team are actively engaged in conservation work and environmental research.

What are the Standard Entry Requirements?
