The week beginning 20 March saw Varndean College host its annual STEM Fest event, with talks being delivered by specialists throughout the week. Speakers were invited from various Science, Maths, Engineering and Technology professions, who came to provide informative and engaging talks about their work and career paths to their current position with a description of their typical working day. Speakers ranged from a specialist oncology nurse to marine engineers and from an Army doctor, civil engineers and a consultant paramedic to a senior liver transplant specialist.
This annual event is aimed mainly at students studying STEM subjects, but it also aligns with other subject areas such as Health & Social Care, Psychology, Geography and Environmental Sustainability. It provides an ideal opportunity to bring education and skills together, helping STEM students understand the many avenues that are available to them at a critical, career decision-making time in their lives.
