This is a practical and creative one-year course and you will study the work of artists as well as making your own art. This is a course which will develop your practical skills and your critical knowledge and make you a more confident artist. You will explore different themes and a variety of materials and processes (drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture and textiles). You are assessed on your ability to develop ideas, experiment with practical materials, record ideas and present successful outcomes.
There is a practical coursework unit and a practical examination. Most materials you need for your artwork will be provided in the studio but there is a charge for materials and you will need to buy sketchbooks (available in the college shop). Students need to be committed to spending time on art as there will be independent study tasks to complete each week. Students who do well on this course can choose to progress to A Level Art, Textiles, 3D Design, Graphic Design or Photography afterwards.
Grade 3 in GCSE Art, Graphics, Textiles or provide a portfolio of your art/design work at interview
