We wish to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic teacher of Physics and Engineering to join our STEM department in a popular Brighton college.

In this rewarding post you will be teaching A Level Physics and the Cambridge Technicals Level 3 Extended Certificate in Engineering and, potentially, teaching some modules on our BTEC Science courses and/or Maths GCSE.

College Sports Coordinator

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Sports Specialist to join our expanding Sports department to develop opportunities for 16-19-year olds.

You will be responsible for increasing opportunities for students to participate in sports by establishing links with other college, clubs and external bodies, and promoting activities to the student body.

A key part of the role will be to provide curriculum support a help to co-ordinate the booking of facilities and to arrange transport to and from fixtures and other off-site events, whilst monitoring and maintaining sports kit and equipment issued to students ensuring it is in good order and ready for use when required. In addition, you will assist with publicising sports, PE and recreation activities and the achievements of college teams and individuals through college social media channels.

There is an expectation that this post will lead activities with students so relevant sports qualifications are needed. This is an ideal opportunity to develop professionally in this area.

Varndean College is looking to recruit a well-qualified and experienced Adult Education CACHE Tutor to teach the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning as well as observe and assess students in a voluntary or work school placement.

The course will run at Varndean College on Thursday 9.30am until 2.30pm over 3 term starting in September 2021.

Students will learn the knowledge & skills needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. Students will complete a portfolio that shows evidence about their understanding of elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication and professional relationships. As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment (school or college).

As a tutor you will supervise the work carried out by learners to:

  • monitor their progress and prevent plagiarism
  • use virtual learning environments eg Moodle and Google Classroom
  • observe and assess students in a practical placement
  • ensure that the work completed is in accordance with the qualification specification and is suitable for internal assessment

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate should have a recognised teaching qualification and experience of working with children or young people in an early years educational setting including primary education.

In addition, an ability to adopt a variety of strategies to suit students’ different learning styles and proven ability to plan and prepare courses and lessons is required. You should be able to teach remotely if required.

The course will run at the Honey croft Centre, Hove on a Wednesday from 9.45 until 12.45 for 15 weeks starting in February 2022.

Students will learn about the needs of young children, aged from birth to 5 years based in a variety of settings. Students will study basic skills needed to support play work, out-of-school and early years settings. The assessment method is in form of a portfolio. Students are provided with a Varndean College workbook which includes assessments.

We require an enthusiastic and qualified teacher to teach on our A level and IB politics courses, commencing in September 2021. Additional teaching hours may be available for suitably qualified candidates in law, sociology and business.

The person appointed would be expected to teach predominantly on the A Level Politics course teaching UK Politics and Government and Political Ideas. They will be the Programme Lead for Politics.

Each member of the Politics team is expected to contribute to the production of teaching resources and fully participate in the work of the department. We are a welcoming and enthusiastic department that looks to support students of all abilities to achieve their potential. Colleagues collaborate with other programmes to organise day trips to local party-political conferences and Westminster as well as residential trips to Edinburgh, the USA and Russia. The weekly Politics Society has been running for 25 years inviting a wide range of speakers to college to engage with students on a wide range of issues from our local MPs, pressure groups and university lecturers. We have good links with our two local universities and are looking to foster these further.

The successful applicant will have a relevant degree recognised teaching qualification/qualified teacher status.
