Job Description

Varndean College is looking to recruit a full time permanent Senior Technician for September 2019.

Being the Senior Technician you will be responsible for managing the team of Science and Visual Arts technicians and working with the Assistant Heads of School and appropriate Programme Leaders to ensure the effective provision of technical support across the college. Part of you role will involve staff development, training new technical support staff, review and annual appraisal processes for team members and induction, support and monitoring of new technicians. This post will advise and support the Health & Safety Officer with regard to COSHH regulation compliance within the Science and Visual Arts Department.

Health and Safety within the department is paramount, you will be training and advising staff and students on Health and Safety regulations and any known hazards regarding equipment and monitoring that it complies with Health and Safety procedures. You will maintain, review and update the register of all hazardous substances within the Science area. Have a good understanding of the key requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (as amended) and monitor compliance with the Science and Visual Arts departments. You will also be involved in the preparation and maintenance of equipment for experiments/lessons.

Visual Arts Technician
Contract: Fixed-term 1 year - term time plus 1 week (40 weeks)
Salary: £18,780 pro rata pa
Hours: 28 hours a week

Job Description

You will be a practical, adaptable individual, ready to work with tutors and support students in a busy visual arts department, working in photography and other visual arts disciplines.

Duties will include maintenance of studios, darkrooms and specialist equipment, preparation of teaching materials and resources and stock management.

An understanding of traditional and digital photographic processes is essential.

Learning Support Coordinator
Contract: Permanent, term-time plus 4 weeks (43 weeks per year)
Salary: £30,869 pro-rata
Hours: 37 hours a week

Job Description

Varndean College is seeking to appoint a Learning Support Coordinator to support Head of Learning Support to ensure that each learner’s specific needs are met. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Head of Learning Support with the coordinator of the Additional Support team to coordinate day to day timetabling of in-class support, work with exam access coordinator and well-being lead, and support in EHCP plans.

Suitable candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent and have a qualification in in Specific Learning Difficulties/in Inclusive Education and SEND.

Candidates must have knowledge and experience of supporting young people in FE and HE, with special educational needs and disabilities, have a good working knowledge of SEND and a sound knowledge of ALS funding.
